Everyone watches football (and by football I mean American football, NFL and College) on TV on Thanksgiving or they are asleep because of too much turkey and alcohol. Or they are watching the Buffy marathon. :) Why do you think the US doesn't have Christmas specials?

Because the shows I seem to like always have a hiatus during Christmas time? I don't remember any Christmas specials of The Good Wife, for example?

PS:I am just complaining. :D I was looking forward to a new episode of The Good Wife. It might have been the football thing? I didn't know about the football. They do it in UK too, TV usually dies out during the World and European football Cups. But I do like my World Cups, so I don't usually mind..

They have Christmas specials but it's not for regular shows (e.g. there is no special for Good Wife), it's separate Xmas-themed things.

There are no new eps on Thanksgiving and Christmas because nobody would watch them - on Thanksgiving, people are with their family, then either watching football or shopping. Nobody really watches TV. Plus, there is a huge amount of travelling (it's a holiday all about extended family) so even if you are not shopping/football-watching, you are supposed to catch up with family and also tyou get 30 people in the same house who normally watch 6 different shows so it wouldn't work out. Largely same for Christmas - people are with family, want something different (not same shows), there is a lot of travel both to families and as warm getaways, nobody watches much TV, Same reason not that many movies open on Xmas.

Yep. I think a lot of people actually go out to the movies Christmas day. I'm seriously thinking about it this year because Warhorse opens Christmas day. And the new Sherlock Holmes movie comes out Dec. 16th.

It might be the travelling part.. I do like it the way they do it in the UK , though, where they show Christmas eps of the favourite shows. some of my favourite memories are watching Dr.Who Christmas specials with the family. Even "Misfits" had a Christmas ep. :D The way I see it, Thansgiving is huge in USA (must be somewhat close to Christmas in it's hugeness, this is why I am comparing).

Yes, more I think of it, I can't really remember a USA show that I watched that does Christmas Specials, but in UK? it is a bit of a Chritmas tradition for many people to watch Doctor Who on Christmas day together.

I hope the new installment of "the Good Wife" will wait for me today!!!!!!!!!!!!!
