It is a nice sunny day and I feel nice and sunny. And I don’t work on Wednesdays. I work 4 days a week as my life seems to be as equally important as my work, even though I love my work. So I am at home with my cuppa and I want to go and do some shopping for shoes later. Life is pretty awesome ( Read more... )

I just watched this as well - I agree: Fassbender (while adequate) was not my Rochester. Of all the versions I've seen, Toby Stephens was by far my favorite. What I really loved about the new version, however, was the lush scenery and the soundtrack! I quickly downloaded it and now use it when writing as inspiration. ;)

But all in all, it was indeed a lovely film.

Yes, as far as Rochesters go, Toby Stephens was the best. I also liked Timothy Dalton in the role, but that adaptation was my "first" and also that (1983) did have mane advantages over the others - Jane's school years were given proper attention, and even the "Gypsy" scene was there.

but yes, the soundtrack was wonderful. I am going to download it too.

I really recommend it - as a "girls night out" or as a family movie, this is a good one.

Yes. Of all things, I thought this was perfectly directed in that it evoked the exact Gothic feel one would expect from Jane Eyre.

Yes, the directing was just right. I fell in love with the UK countryside, all over again.

YES! That scene showed a real chemistry.

I never heard of "Wide Sargasso Sea", but thank you so much, I looked it up and I am so thankful someone somewhere wrote the story of Rochester's wife. If he felt he was "dumped" into the marriage, I imagine what she felt ad what she had to go through. I should read it.

The only adaptation I remember that did the gypsy scene well was the first one, the one from 1983.

Timothy Dalton was my "first Rochester" too - he will always be Rochester in my head.

I really fancy seeing this with my daughter.

I really liked Toby too, but Timothy Dalton is very close. I feel a mood to find and re-watch that old adaptation.

My daughter and I went to see it on a spur of the moment, and I wasn't really sure because she is not that keen on "romance" stories, but she said she loved it. I think mostly because this is a story of a young girl and this worked for her.
