Yesterday I was pretty sure I was going to buy Chris Anderson's book when it comes out on July 7th. (Or possibly the day after. Apparently there's a s00j concert in Lincoln on the 7th, and working out the logistics of getting myself and my friends down to it may be a considerable undertaking.) Today, I'm not so sure.

man. this is dumb, like really dumb. If you are doing a general sort of paraphrasing thingy, you should at least say "oh, I got this from kipedia" that way people can say "ooh, that's who thought this". if you're quoting, you'd better be referencing something.

And why exactly can't he just save to his own desktop the page he got??? Yes, it makes it difficult for someone to access his notes, but it's the same damn thing as a personal interview, and that has standard citation guidelines!

That's the thing is he says he acknowledged "intellectual debt" for ideas from other sources. Just not the online stuff, which sends a very bad message.

Even a paraphrase, if it is at all specific, usually requires a citation of some kind.

Huh. I hadn't really been paying much attention to your sooj stuff, but when you mentioned the concert, I figured I might as well attend...then I found out it's 4 blocks from my house...I guess I just about have to now, ne?
