Loneliness can be devastating...

Alex woke and lifted her head, she cried out as her neck punished her for the odd position it had been in the past hour. She rubbed her swollen eyes and sighed heavily, “Jesus, please” as the memory for her current state rushed back. She grabbed her overstuffed briefcase and hurriedly shut off her computer and lamp, “I just need to get home” she reasoned. After a long taxi ride, Alex entered her dark apartment and let out a relieved sigh. She kicked off her overpriced designer heels and padded into the kitchen. Eating reheated Chinese food and sipping tea, a sudden wave of loneliness hit Alex as she thought, “this is it.” The end to an emotional day found Alex sitting alone on her couch, she rushed home for this! She thought back to the curt nods her colleagues delivered as she left the office for the night. She longed for that interaction, any interaction that let her know she was not alone. Instead she sat frozen on her couch, her heart aching for any type of contact. She had never wanted to be needed as much as she did then. Something, anything, a late call for a much needed warrant or a urgent call telling her someone she loved was in trouble, anything. Alex then thought of Olivia, the detective that made her question all she thought she knew, all she thought she was. She curled into a ball on her couch as waves of pain racked her body, “it hurts” she whimpered to herself. For the second time that day Alex cried her self to sleep.

Across town, Olivia Benson sat at her desk in awe. It was the first time in a long time she felt alive. She had long given up on the idea of ever being in love again. She’d grown accustomed to being alone, it was easy. No one to disappoint, no one to worry about, but ultimately no one to care for her, in the way only a lover could. But now, now most of Olivia’s thoughts centered on the ease she felt with the distant yet captivating ADA. Olivia loved the assertiveness and passion of the striking blond, she loved Alex’s intelligence and composure. She was in love with Alex and had never been happier.
