Sleeping Together Part 2 and 3

Title: Sleeping Together
Pairing: Alex Cabot and Olivia Benson
Rating: Ah... R, mostly for rape and violence triggers
Disclaimer: Still no tengo.
Author's Notes: This part is sort've cheesy. Thanks for the comments. Something maddening about this brain child is that though "sleeping together" is the only good title, it will be several parts until any sleeping together actually happens (Sorry, greenovalfruit and anonymous person)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Alex had been frightened of forceful, impassioned Detective Benson when she became their ADA at the agency. She had assumed a self-protecting coldness to protect herself out of instinct, but her fear had slowly waned as she came to know Olivia’s less brutal side. It had been a sort of “I’ll show you mine if you’ll show me yours” process, with Olivia revealing her compassion, kindness, caring, and vulnerability as she came to know Alex’s shy humor and the endearing imperfections she constantly tried to cover up.

Months had passed then, and the comfortable openness and trust had developed, for Alex at least, into something a little bit more than friendship. Now Alex wore her best suits to court for Olivia’s cases and double checked her appearance in the mirror when she knew she’d be seeing her. She felt a thrill when Olivia’s eyes swept across her, and felt surely, surely they lingered almost every time. And then suddenly, their time together began to increase even more.

There were innuendos, which neither could be sure the other one comprehended, prolonged glances, which brought color to Alex’s pale cheeks and sent streaks of heat the length of Olivia’s body. Both took pleasure in the interest and attraction they perceived in each other, but each wrote it off as wishful thinking, as their dreams became more and more colorful - a myriad of rainbows, truth be told.

It wasn’t a hunt, it was a dance, the feeling of moving across a floor crowded with bodies, nearing one another unconsciously, closer and closer until they touched, pressed together, and moved as one, never fully understanding how they got there. For tough Benson and perpetually distant Cabot, it was the only way.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And then came the six year old. Her name had been Hannah, and she had been in Kindergarten at an elementary school not two blocks from the station. Two women found her in the park, her entire lower half covered in blood, streaks of it crossing her face, naked and spread-eagled in the grass. From the vaginal tearing and sperm count, the little girl had been gang raped, undergoing unimaginable pain before she bled to death.

For the first three days no one slept, working 24 hours a day to catch the men who would do something so inhuman and evil. The trail finally took them to the girl’s older brother, who belonged to a basketball team. The boy and four of his teammates, each younger than 18, were convicted with the most heinous rape and murder of the year. Hannah’s brother, upon hearing the verdict, cursed the jury and yelled that his sister had asked for what she got, and as the officers forced him into a cop car, he told reporters that his 6 year old sister had come on to him and his friends. The members of the SVU watched with horror.

The three-day search was over, and now the detectives could rest - in theory.

Elliot left first that day - he was always rushing home to be near to his daughters, to remind himself they were safe, and renew his personal vow to keep them that way. Munch was next and the station emptied slowly after him, until Olivia was left staring at the ceiling fan, watching it spin. She certainly couldn’t go home tonight, and she might’ve stayed in her stupor until morning, but the phone rang.
“Benson.”
“Hey, it’s Alex.” Olivia glanced sluggishly at the clock - It was 1 am.
“Alex? Are you okay? Why are you still up?”
Alex’s voice shook slightly. “I can’t sleep, but I’m fine, I mean, I’ll be okay, I just can’t stand to be by myself here tonight. I didn’t think you’d be going home, you want to come over? For a little while?”
This was, in a twisted, way, a dream come true. So many long, long nights holding tight to her pillows, wishing she was holding Alex close instead. But she was being stupid, still dreaming - her hopes were having their way with her. Alex probably just needed to talk with a friend. A friend.

“I’ll be there in less than 15 minutes.”

“Thank you”

“Bye.”

“By - Olivia?”

“What?”

“Thank you.”

Olivia ran, hooking her leather jacket hurriedly from the hat stand, and frantically waved a cab down outside. She stared through the cab windows as the city lights flashed in her eyes. Arriving, she paid and jogged onto the elevator, straightening her clothes in its mirrored sides. As the doors slid open, however, she suddenly felt drained and exhausted, the feeling of coming home taking her into her nightmares. She found herself staring again, and slowly made her way to Alex’s apartment, where she had dropped off some paperwork with Elliot the month before.
