Title: The Darkest Hour Author: alesh101 Word count: 1729 Characters: Guy, Meg, Isabella Disclaimer: I own nothing, Tiger Aspect and BBC do. A/N: written for hoodlandRound 8 final challenge.
Nice job! You captured the smells and sounds of the dungeon from both Meg's and Guy's perceptions. You've shown caring!Guy - it's easy to see how this leads to that heart-wrenching scene in the show.
And I like how you've given us a glimpse at Isabella's turmoil. Too bad she had to be so hardened in the end.
Thanks! I'm always afraid of too much detail. I have a tendency to ramble. I always like caring!Guy. I figured he had nothing to lose by being nice for once, especially since Meg's fate was partly his fault.
I figure Isabella had to be hard. I also think it was something of bad timing that Guy got thrown in the dungeons when he did. With Thornton showing back up, Isabella would be angry with all men at the time and too willing to punish when she could have compromised.
Beautifully done, especially the Meg and Guy sections; it's very believable and poignant that he would hold her at that moment (and it's very realistic that he smells, LOL). Isabella's section is good but ... hmm, I feel like there could be a more immediate sense of anger and pain there? Still, overall, excellent work. Thanks for sharing this!
Yeaaaahh, the Izzy bit is what happens when I rush. Honestly I probably should have left it out. I wasn't completely sure about it and it feels flat to me. I just couldn't get into her head the way I got into Guy's and Meg's.
Lovely story, and I also especially liked the Guy and Meg parts. The rat, Guy being barefoot, him stinking of sweat and the dungeon, the prisoners' moans... all great evocative detail of the place and time.
