New layout... again

Jun 13, 2007 01:16

I get bored so easily, you know?

Still working on the precise theme (other than Snape). Now that we're almost a month away from Deathly Hallows, I thought I'd show my support for dear Severus. You're going to make it and you're going to be good, do you hear me, you bastard?

*shakes fist in general direction of the U.K.*

severus snape, severus, snape, layouts

Of course he's going to make it!!! He's waaaay too HOT/badass to just be a one-dimensional traitor and/or to not make it.

I'll admit, the, "you're going to make it," is really just wishful thinking on my part. I'm fully prepared either way, but I really hope he survives.

But I'm adamant about him being ultimately good. That is not something that I'm willing to concede and I really don't think JKR would do that. As you say, Snape is far to interesting and complex a character to just scrap like that.

If I were to encounter a boggart at this moment, I'd reason that it would be an unrepentant evil!Snape. :(

Mmmm, lovely layout. I just today changed my layout away from a Snape theme, how ironic. Of course my j will always be Snape themed! Raah!

Heh. Yes, I doubt that he'll ever really be gone from your journal not matter what you change your layout to. That is, unless you ever change your name to theunsnapelyone. ;)

Best reason for him turning out okay was one I heard at the Snape debate at PR: if he's evil, then it proves that the creepy kid everyone bullied at school turns out to have deserved it. Now, do you really think that's the lesson that JKR is trying to get across?

One of my friends got a dark green ribbon (like the red AIDS ribbons, pink Breast Cancer ribbons, etc.) at Lumos that has "Trust Snape" written on it in silver. About 5" long, 2" wide. I'm going to try to make some up for the movie and book release, and I encourage everyone to do the same.

I just watched the Snape Debate (saw a link on snape news) and I really have to agree. The discussion was great on both sides, but it's more clear to me now than ever before: Snape has to be, if not good then at least not evil. It would just cheapen all the points that JKR has been trying to make about love and redemption and forgiveness if it turns out that the "slimy little oddball" deserved it after all.

Do you have the link? I sort of fell asleep for the first part of it....

The only (bad) thing is, what if he IS evil and the point she's making is that if everyone had been nicer to him, he wouldn't have turned out that way? Not that I think he is. But I guess it's a possibility that I don't remember the "evil Snape" side bringing up to counter that argument.

Sure, here's the link.

I do see that JKR could possibly make that point as well, but still think Snape is destined for something far more complicated. I liked the one point that was raised by Hilary K. in the debate, "Snape is not an either/or; he's a both/and. Everything single thing he does, there's and equal and opposite possible reading for it. What if it's always both?"
