Devastated.

I have never in my wildest dreams imagined that Brokeback Mountain would lose best picture to Crash. I personally hated Crash. I thought the plot was horrendous, very flawed, and did not deserve the nomination. For weeks, I heard it was gaining momentum and couldnt believe it! I was incredibly moved, touched, and amazed by Brokeback Mountain...It ( Read more... )

I like Crash. I find myself nodding in some places when I watched it. Living in a multiracial country, the types of people portrayed in Crash feel so real to me. I might be even one of them.

Brokeback is good. But I like the short story more. I personally wouldn't be dissappointed of they won.

Crash is okay, I did like it. However, my personal bet was Brokeback Mountain. I seriously thought it was the run away winner. So imagine my shock when Dustin announced where the Oscar went. :(

I immediately re-watched BBM after the show. I had to. *sigh* I needed the 'connection', so to speak. Thank God for DVDs! I guess, now I feel a bit better.

So it wasn't a big night for Brokeback Mountain, I see from your post. I'm in France and I haven't checked the results yet.
I expected BBM to collect many awards. I haven't seen Crash.
I think Brokeback Mountain will remain the film of the year anyway, and even more, with or without the awaited awards. Its impact is huge.
As for the story, I've read it, and found the film better, deeper and more touching. Though I think Annie Proulx is a very good writer.

I felt the same, I was angry and upset, but I have to admit I was not surprised at all. Actually I was surprised that they gave BBM Oscars for directing and best adapted screenplay, I thought they would leave this movie only with one Oscar (not main) for a music theme...
