The Epic Continues - Beyond Breakout Part Two...

Aug 08, 2008 23:44

Oh look! What do we have here? No it can't be?!
YES IT IS!
So it may have been almost 2months since the con, but lookee here an update! Besides my recap is EPIC (re: ridiculously long) and Epic takes time! ;P Hopefully the waiting doesn't get all your hopes up and make you think that this is simply spectacular and that you all have such high expectations of my recap now. UH-OH! *hides*

I was originally going to wait a few days before posting this, instead I decided to split the post into two parts, so the next part will come in a few days. Of course, now this post looks kinda short! Really I just can't win!

Since it's been awhile or in case you missed them the first time around, here are the links to prior BoB related posts:
BoB Epic Post Part One - Friday 13th June 2008

And onto the new parts of Epic Recap:

Saturday 14th June - Francis Capra talk

Okay so for the Francis talk, I didn't take notes during his talk, instead I just jotted down what I could remember straight after but even then I'm not sure what I missed and thus inspired me to take notes for future talks. So the following is what Francis talked about in his individual Q&A but in no particular order. I loved hearing Francis speak because he's so keen to share stuff with us and is really passionate about topics dear to him. :D And of course he's very entertaining and constantly had the audience cracking up.

Tattoos and Family - Francis doesn't really count how many individual tattoos he has but estimates that he has about 30 pieces. I think the question was something about how Francis having so many tattoos and knowing when to stop, as the guy who asked the question had a few tattoos and my impression was that maybe he and Francis had had a conversation prior to the talk, maybe at the meet and greet? Anyway to answer the guy's question, Francis said that when you get a tattoo just to fill a space up on your skin then you should stop. He said that all his tattoos have a meaning. He has sister's name - Chanel - on his back and his mum near his heart on his chest. (Awww) He's very close to his familt and also has a brother who's autistic so Francis mentioned about supporting his family earlier on in his career. Back to the tattoos, Francis had mentioned the night before at the opening ceremony that he had gotten new ones on each wrist - "Forsaken" and "Forgiven" if I remember correctly.

I don't know if this was related to the same question but Francis also talked about whether all his tattoos deter him from getting certain roles. He doesn't seem to think so and believed that if it did that just meant he wasn't good enough. My impression from his answer was that physical apperance shouldn't be a factor id he's right for the role. (ie his tattoos aren't a good enough reason for him not to get certain roles.)

VM - He was/is upset that the show is unfinished because he believes that Weevil's story is unfinished and there was just so much more to the character that we could have seen. The scene in "PlanB" (2x17) where Weevil confronts Molly Fitzpatrick over Felix and his line "I loved him too!" was something that showed the audience the depth of what Weevil/Francis was capable of. He also believes that Weevil is totally in love with Veronica and that maybe on some level she had feelings for Weevil too but I'm not sure if that's more to do with Francis' wishful thinking and wanting to see a Weevil/Veronica kiss! ;)

Rob Thomas - Relating to the above topic of Veronica Mars is Rob Thomas. Francis loves Rob and saw Rob as a father figure who looked out for Francis a lot. Francis says he really loves the guy and knows in his heart they'll work together again. However he says he knows that he'll never be able to audition for Beverly Hills 90210, not that it matters anymore since RT isn't doing it anymore anyway.

Jason Dohring - Throughout the whole weekend Francis had nothing but love and praise for J. He loves working with Jason and was this close to getting a role on Moonlight - Guermillo - played by Vargas. Someone asked who'd win a fight between Weevil and Logan and obviously Weevil would win he said but mentioned how Jason has actually never been in a fight in his life before. I love how Francis just continually referred to Jason, like when Francis was talking about preparing for his Heroes audition which took him half an hour since it was short notice. He then remarked that if it were Jason, he would have spent 6 months preparing, not because he needed to but because that's just what Jason does. Lol.

Which did he prefer, Weevil's bike or car? - Obviously the bike, its more of a chick magnet. :D

Heroes - You can't really do justice on just how excited/enthusiastic/passionate Francis is about his role. He was resticted on what he could reveal to us and had to keep stopping himself from saying stuff so he wouldn't give anything away. He's excited about awesome it is but says that we need to make a lot of noise and talk about the character. Talking about it on the net can affect the storyline and how much involvement his character will have on the show, (SO MAKE SOME NOISE) LoL. He does think that at the end of the first episode we will be like "OMG. That's so awesome!" in terms of what's happening with his character. He really believes that we'll get a chance to see what he's capable of us because he is good (okay that didn't come out right but hopefully you get what I mean and don't interpret this as Francis being egotistical because he's not) and that's why he was disappointed when VM ended because there was still so much more he could have shown and so much more left to the character. He's excited about his journey on Heroes and the fact that we'll be able to see depth to the character and see him develop unlike many of the guest spots he's done on TV like FNL. He also said that all the other villain characters he's done were just PG13 villains in comparrison to his character on Heroes, who is a supervillain.

Milo Ventimiglia and Kristen Bell - Just like with JD, Francis has much love for Milo. There was a lot of Milo praise from Francis throughout the weekend and how he loves working with him. This is not necessarily acting wise but actually directing wise (as in Milo is directing on s3 of Heroes not Francis) It was just obvious that Francis has a lot of admiration and respect for the guy. He then mentioned that he has yet to work with Kristen since she's still shooting "When in Rome" (and possibly working on this big mystery project of hers? eh? *nudge. *nudge*) and hasn't been on set yet (or at least at the time of the con she hadn't since this recap is just over a month overdue *insert sheepish look here* Francis thinks that Kristen must have at least three clones with the amount of work she's doing. And amongst the KB gushing, Francis mentioned that she really wanted to be here and was upset that she had to cancel. Francis too, was looking forward to catching up with her over here.

Travelling - So Francis is here in London with his sister Chanel (who's a writer), and loves it. Yesterday (Friday) they went to the British Musuem (hee,

afrocurl
invida and I were there on the Thursday) and it was cool since they love Egypt and would love to go there. They also want to go to Africa. He also loves the Cayman Islands. (As in he's been there and loves it)

Marshall Allman - He briefly spoke about some movie he worked on with fellow con attendee Marshall Allman. (Prior to his talk I didn't know that but had noticed them standing around chatting like old mates during the photo session earlier that morning, so it's cool that they've been reunited :D) Francis said it was a bad movie. (I had to look it up on IMDB, It's called "Dishdogz" made in 2005). He also told a little annecdote of how Marshall's car was stolen during the time of filming,

Getting into Acting - Hee - it was a way to get out of school for the day when he went for an audition.

Free Willy 2 and Francis's Fear of Water - Francis has a fear of water. It is believed that it streamed from filming on "Free Willy 2" where Francis was shooting on a boat and was convinced that this one whale was constantly trying to overturn it. LoL. This little annectdote and accompanying impressions had the audience just craking up in laughter. :D

Religion - Francis was baptised on Tuesday (despite his fear of water!) There was a sense of Francis kind of having spiritual beliefs or believing in fate. He made quite a few references to destiny.

Other Bits and Pieces - Francis also spoke of his roles on "Crank" (2006 movie), "Kazaam" (1996 Shaquielle O'Neill movie) and " A Bronx Tale" (1993 movie with Robert DeNiro) - which Francis said saved him and Robert DeNiro, or "Bob" as Francis referred to him as, changed his life. Francis would love to work with Al Pacino. He also mentioned that he did a table reading for "The Bucket List". There was also mention of his appearance on The O.C. but I don't really remember what was said since he wasn't on it for very long in the ep that he was in anyway (1x03 I believe it is)

And here's some pretty:

Saturday 14th June - Jodi Lyn O'Keefe talk

Jodi's talk was after Francis's and I decided after the challenge it was to try and recall everything that Francis had said, I would then take notes as the guests spoke. Plus I swear sometimes I have ADD and can’t sit still - I’m so used to multi-tasking that now it’s just become a part of normal life where I always have to be doing more than one thing at a time.So here we go...

How she got into movies - Jodi used to watch old movies with her grandfather. Modelling was a way to pay for school, and looking at this answer I don't think that really answers the question but that's all the notes I have for that question. LoL.

H20 (Halloween 20 Years later film) - There's a scene with Jodi's character and a retractable knife and when she got stabbed, it misses...or so she thought. It wasn't until later when someone pointed it out that Jodi was bleeding that she realised that she actually got hit. She hadn't even felt a thing!

Bad girl roles - Jodi mentioned that appearing on Boston Legal, she finally got to play a good person. She also talked about what it's like playing the bitch and how some people can't distinguish the difference.

Embarrassing roles - According to Jodi, 99.9% of her resume she's ashamed but recognises that you need to pay rent and buy food, hence taking up the embarassing roles. However she is proud of her work on "Falling in love with Ponga Ponga".

Playing the prom queen - Well she was Taylor Vaughn on "She's All That" and Ashley Grant on "Whatever It Takes" (Oh Shane West!) (and dammit I should have brought those 2 DVDs over with me and got them signed! D'OH!) Anyway, although she's played many prom queen roles, growing up Jodi was shy and played softball. She says her mother likens her to a great dane puppy - long and too big.

Being on a male dominated show - Jodi says it's fabulous and that being one of the only women on the show, you get treated like a princess.

Character inspiration - Jodi says it comes from watching bits and pieces. She does mention "The Professional" in particular, Leon and, La Femme Nikita. She also says she acts upon pent up emotions.

Auditioning for Prison Break - Jodi describes it as intimidating and a strange process.

Strangest place she's been recognised - On a plane, sitting next to her because there's no where else to go. She also said her hometown. She's also been shaken in front of a restraunt.

If you could be in another television series past or present, what would it be? -  She'd like to do a comedy. She also said that she is proud of her television work.

Staying in shape - pilates, eating habits, hiking with 3 dogs, staying active.

Places she's lived - Jodi lived in San Francisco for 7 years for Nash Bridges, is living in Texas for Prison Break, and has also lived in Canada.

Actors Jodi admires - Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins.

Musical talents  - Jodi learnt/played the guitar briefly but declares that she's crap. The same goes with the keyboard. Jodi also says that she can't carry a tune, and that with the violin, she mutilated "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star". LoL. But when it comes to shooting a weapon, she's good at blanks.

Playing the good girl - Jodi says that she would like to play the nice girl for once and be the heroine and not kill people.

Fave TV Show - Ab Fab is her fave TV show and Jodi brought up about she would love to go to Harvey Nicholls while she's over here which she mentioned at the Meet and Greets last night.

Past roles and opportunities - Jodi says that there's always been a good reason for her taking the roles that she has. She's very grateful, thankful, and humble for all the opportunities that she's been given. As for the opportunities that she's missed, she's sorry that she's missed them but wouldn't change the past.

Dream role - Her dream role would be a period piece, as the research alone would be exciting. But she hates prosethetics and being in them for a long time would make her claustrophobic.

Asking for autographs - She asked Carol Burnett (Brady Bunch right?) on the street. Jodi says that she's a huge trekkie Fan and told an anecdote of how she flipped out when Jeri Ryan got into the same elevator as her.

End bits - Jodi said that she'd love to do work in the sci-fi genre. She also mentioned that she was here with her friend Gregory who was in the room during her talk. There was also a bit of a discussion about Wonder Woman, which I can't remember what was said.

And here's some Jodi pretty:
