Boot making Tutorial Part 1 : Making a mock up for a whole shoe.

Jan 13, 2009 20:24

O.k last tutorial I showed you how to make a mock up "Bootcover boot" using the soles of old shoes. This time I will show you how to make them using the whole shoe. The supplies are the same as last post but this time I will add some other supplies

Supplies:

1. A pair of old tennis shoes.

2. Broadcloth or muslin

3. Stablizer or Heavywight Interfacing

4. Sewing pins

5. Sewing machine

6. Simplicity pattern #4942 ( piece number 16 bootcover)

7. Masking tape

8. Scciors

9. Needle

10. Thread to match the shoes

O.k this is the shoe that I'm gonna use. I suggest using shoes that do not have shoe laces like slip - on type shoes. If you don't have them then this next step's for you.

Remove the shoelace. Taking needle and thread sew along the edges the front of the shoe. Your basicly sewing the tongue onto the sides of the shoe making a slip- on type style. Once your done your ready to add on the boot cover.

O.k this time I extened the pattern so that the boots will go up to my Knee a bit. I suggest doing this is you want londer boots.

And you know what to do. Cut, sew the front of the boot cover leaving the back and bottom open, press the seam, and cover the shoe. Tape or pin in place along the sloe of the shoe. Taking the back pin the back pieces together to where you get the right fit and hand base it to keep it in place.

O.k and your done with you mock - up. This is a pic of both types of "Bootcover Boot" The one is on the left is the soles one and the one on the right is the one with the whole shoe. You can tell the difference one is bulker and more convincing and the other look more like a flater looking boot. Something on the lines of a meadival style boot.

O.k this concludes this section of the mock up Part 3 will show you how to make attachments to your boots like adding a zipper and elastic to the top of the boot stay tuned.

Also once I'm done with part 3 I will post another one on painting shoes. I'll leave a preview to show you which character gave me the idea to do this tutorial. Stay tuned.

Who says they don't make red 'Converses"....
