Tasty Tuesday: Baked Apple Steel-Cut Oats

Feb 05, 2013 19:26

On weekends when we're feeling like taking the time, we like to eat steel cut oats. They're chewier and earthier tasting than rolled oats, but they can be very time-consuming (and really irritating to do in the microwave. Boil-overs everywhere!)

This is one of our go-to recipes, modified from The Kitchn's Baked Pumpkin Steel-Cut Oats ( Read more... )

Reading this on my Android via the Eljay app. It lets me selecttext, and it lets me adjust the selection more easily than some of the builtin apps. BUT THEN THERE'S NO WAY TO ***COPY*** IT. (Insert rant of your own wording here.)

When I still ate oatmeal, this was very similar to the recipe I used for it. I would take an apple and slice it very thinly, and then dice it. Then warm it in a pan with honey. That got added to the oatmeal once it was simmering. I'd toss in random spices (much like yours) and toast walnuts or pecans in the oven while it was cooking. The walnuts got crumpled in with cream when the oatmeal was done. :)

Ooh, toasted. I should try that next time!

Sometimes, if we have fresh apples, we dice them in. But, since we had a bumper crop November-before-last, we have a lot of applesauce.
