"You're going to stay with Aunt Eva tonight," Fallon told her youngest daughter, rather more dictatorially than she normally did such things. "Tallulah is off with her friends, and Storm is spending the night with Stone and Chalce."
"Why can't I spend the night with Stone?" Bellamy blushed the moment the words were out of her mouth, more than good reason for Fallon to say no. "I mean, with Chalce?"
"Because Hadlai and I have a deal, no more than one kid loaned at once." She patted Bellamy's shoulder gently. "It's one night, and you get along fine with Aunt Eva, don't you?"
"I do," she admitted, "it's just..." the girl squirmed uncomfortably. "I don't want to be the next Aunt."
"Oh, honey!" Fallon hugged her daughter, remembering, with her own surge of discomfort, a similar conversation with her own mother. And the conversation she'd overheard between Evangaline and their mother, not much later. "If you have the spark, staying away from Eva won't do you any good. And if you don't, then there's no need to worry. You two get along well still, right?"
"Yeaaah? She's not like Aunt Asta was, always trying to get me to read the cards or throw the bones or something really creepy," Bellamy admitted. "We hang out and play cards and watch tv."
Probably forbidden shows, too. Eva could get away with it, and Fallon wouldn't complain. "Then you can do that." She remembered Asta being cool when they were young and, as they all got older, getting pushier and pushier. "And if Eva ever starts getting pushy about the cards and stuff, tell me right away, okay?" There was no need to let her sister get away with things, just because their Aunt had.
Bellamy, relaxed, nodded, but she smiled at her mother with a bit of mischief. "Next time, you should sent Storm to visit Eva, and let me visit Chalce, okay?"
Eva, if anyone, would be the Aunt to stop treating nephews like second-class citizens. "It's a deal."
