[124] ..at least it wasn't the waters of mars.

a brief update about the flooding situationfrom what i can tell, only a few items in the storage closet got soaked, and they weren't as important as some of the others. i'm hoping the suitcases full of my mum's sarees collected from around the world, and the cartons full of my childhood photographs and my dad's documents escaped damage because they ( Read more... )

The bug that rolls up is a potato bug or isopod, if you want to be more scientifically accurate.

Lol idk... they used to be my favorite bug growing up.

Anyway, I hope your mom's sarees weren't ruined :/ And that'd be awful if your pictures were.

That is what I would call a pillbug or a roly poly. A potato bug is actually something different - and hideous. I would recommend against googling if you dislike bugs.

Lol, oh ... Well, I guess I was mistaken as a kid and it always stuck with me! Haha. But yeah, I've also called it roly poly before. At least I got 'isopod' right.

emerald_embers had replied with "wood louse" in her answers to the meme, which i think also curls up on itself.

is that the same thing as a pillbug?

i'm pretty damn entomophobic so i'm not going to google.

I hope everything is okay! I would have been screwed, I'm the kind of person who sleeps through tornadoes (and I slept through a plane crash in town a few months ago, I was even in what the news called the 'blast zone')

yeh the guy only found out because after i called security, they went up to his place and banged on his door. even then, he took a while to respond.

i'm quite the light sleeper. even turning on the lights in the room will wake me up.

I believe #6 refers to an eavestrough.

glad most of the important stuff appears undamaged...still a big pain in the ass, though. lucky at least that electronics weren't touched :P

yeh i was thinking either eaves or drainpipe, which is what the person i took the meme from replied with.

i'm glad the electronics were untouched because otherwise i would've been shocked the minute i switched on the lights while walking around in the water.

I would have replied to 6 with gutter, I think its the same thing as eavestrough, that sounds like it would be at least...

Fantastic that you were able to catch the flooding before it could continue until morning. And that only some unimportant stuff got damaged, hopefully your photos, etc are safe!

The roof-rain things we always called "gutters" and the bugs are Isopods :D :D :D The most common species (around here at least) I called woodbugs when I was a kid, because they were the ones that leave those dug out trails in wood.

i can just TELL i'm going to be on high alert the next few days and reluctant to leave the house in fear of the water reappearing! grr D:

i was thinking "eaves" and emerald_embers had said "drainpipe" which made sense too, but i wasn't completely sure. now that you mention it, i've heard "gutters" for that enough times after moving to canada though, heh :D

i hate bugs. i just kept thinking of caterpillars and ringworms, and then i got disgusted and kind of frightened so i moved on to the next question :P
