While studying Czech today, came upon this short dialogue, presented here in translation. No wonder it was so short:

A: Do you speak Czech?
B: Yes, but only a little.
A: Do you understand [it] well?
B: It's a big problem -- I understand very little.
A: I don't understand all that much either.

That's what I would call in Russian "pogovorili" :).

I only now realize how much stuff one must memorize in order to to say anything that is useful or has any point in Slavic languages. I never really studied a Slavic language seriously (I did study Polish, but it was a long time ago and I actually went to Poland a couple of times, where I picked up most of it), and, as I was going through the Czech ( Read more... )
