Finished reading Saturn’s Children by Charles Stross. It was nominated for a Hugo, so I figured it would be worth a read. It starts out as Freya Nakamichi-47, an android designed to serve as a femme bot for humans (humans, who are, unfortunately, completely extinct), finds herself broke and in need of escape, as she has just managed to offend a ( Read more... )

I am wondering could you recommend some science fiction for me to read? I love sf, but tried picking up a few books and did not like any of them, so I figured i must be reading the wrong authors. I noticed that you read a lot and thought I would seek your advise. :)

Are we talking just science fiction, or fantasy too? I haven't actually read that much sci-fi until this year, I was more of a fantasy person before. What did you read that you didn't like?

I am embarrassed but I do not know the difference. :) Could you recommend something from both genre? And I am afraid I do not remember which books I did not like. I remember reading a lot of sci fic in Russian and loving it, but never finding anything here. Although I must say I did not try as hard as I should have had. There was only one that I found that I really like, but that was very long time ago. It was by Mary Doria Russel (spelling?).
