I've been getting increasing eyestrain headaches at work; driving at night is becoming more and more difficult (images blur when pupils dilate); I can't focus enough to draw. It was time and past time for a new prescription ( Read more... )

I've lost faith in ever getting "no-flake" anti-glare coating on my lenses. For the last 6 months or so I've been looking through soap bubbles as the coating flakes, on both sides of the lenses. I really need to find an optometrist in the Netherlands, but this is harder than you'd think.

Have you ever considered vari-focal lenses? I was 13 when my optometrist suggested I might consider bi- or trifocals, and I absolutely rebelled. A year later, I went back and begged for them, and have had trifocals ever since. They're great.

I've worn vari-focal lenses for several years now. Therein was my problem: the part for mid-to-far range needs to be directly in front of my eyes, and the part for close work lower on the lens. Instead, the mid-to-far was so high on the lens that the whole lens was useless.

I now have replacements, and they seem to be working well enough.

Alas, to have enough variation in my progressives to drive (i.e. see the far-away road sign and the speedometer), the near field I use for typing and reading is quite low on the lens. This required me to hold my head juuuuuuuust so... for hours at a time.

The new reading lenses are great! The hard part is remembering to switch when I'm done with the close work.
