FIX YOU - a House/Cuddy video
I was going to do this for loudxmusic for Christmas, because she put it on her wishlist in what I thought was a plea pretty much aimed right at me, so I couldn't NOT do it, right? Then she requested it for music_fest, and it was a done deal, it was mine. So this is for Carlee in both places, both in her normal LJ and in music_fest. It is, clearly, set to Coldplay's "Fix You", and it ends up being House/Cuddy.

"What if there was only one choice? And all the other ones were wrong... and there were signs along the way to pay attention to?"
That is basically the most efficient way I can describe this video. It's a study in fate, above all. And a study in how making the wrong decisions and being with the wrong people will eventually lead to you to the right ones. It's about things lining up and fitting and falling into place before you even see that it's happening. Life is just a path - you follow your heart and it'll take you where you're supposed to go. It's really weird, because I had started a video a few months ago with this same idea to a Depeche Mode song, but I threw it out because it didn't feel right and didn't allow for the kind of... idk, magical there's-something-greater-than-you-at-work-here ambiance that I wanted. THAT IS WHY I'M EXCITED. Because I was able to make that happen through this one. And I know the song's been done to death everywhere (which is why I'm glad someone prompted it lol so I don't have to feel guilty about doing it), but I think you should give it a shot.
0:08 - SELF-EXPLANATORY BUT. DSJKHFA. I'm so glad she said something like this because it totally sets up the idea of the video for you. Then I left that full shot of them in there after she's done talking because I felt that it foreshadowed that they'd end up together. Technical note: I did fool around with the audio.
0:21 - these shots too. Showing that they're perfect together even though they don't know it.
0:30 - this is meant to be the Cuddy/Wilson section.
0:36 - he enters the picture, and her life. It starts out with him being there for her, them dating, and then her leaving because he's not right for her.
0:40 - "you get what you want, but not what you need", just SCREAMED Wilson to me. Because he IS a good guy, and he does everything right, but... he's not what she needs. She needs that spark, she needs that guy who does do things wrong.
0:50 - one of my favorite shots. I've talked about it before but when I see a part that I really like, my insides get colorful. I don't expect it to make sense, but it is what it is, right. LOL.
1:00 - the House/Stacy section. "and the tears come streaming down your face, when you lose something you can't replace. when you love someone but it goes to waste, could it be worse?" I really have nothing much to add because the lyrics are so spot on and really speak for themselves. And I DO ship House/Stacy, so I do believe when he lost her, he did lose something he will never be able to completely replace.
1:26 - FAVORITE. HER LITTLE HAND!! :( :( :(
1:30 - I think this is a defining shot, too. And this is just to show how much Cuddy's been there to pick him up and pull him in the right direction.
1:58 - TIMING. Watch his hands on the piano. And then her eyelashes.
2:03 - the House/Cameron section. watch for timing again, on her walk and then on his hand on the balcony.
2:11 - her touching the BOUO: REMEMBER THAT. You'll need it in a few seconds. I also love his blink on that guitar in the following shot.
2:16 - "if you never try, then you'll never know..." - the kiss, and then her crying. We didn't SEE it happen, but this implies that he totally rejected her, but she just HAD to try.
2:23 - "... just what you're worth". Happy ending for Cameron - if she wouldn't have made the mistake of kissing House, she wouldn't have ended up with Chase, someone who loves her back, and someone who is just right for her. Everything added up for her and she got where she was supposed to go.
2:30 - BOUO PARALLEL. "lights will guide you home". This whole thing is meant to represent the greater forces in life - the ones that just... make things happen. And they guided her there, and she picked it up, and it was a perfect fit. ♥ IDK. I'm having a really hard time articulating what I'm trying to say, and what I see and feel when I look at this video. So I'm really hoping it's one of those innate feelings and stories that you'll be able to figure out because I'm FAILING at explaining the complexity of my own head.
2:40 - timing on her eyes.
2:48 - favorite. and before you ask, NO he didn't turn at look AT her like that :( I cheated and reversed it.
2:56 - FAVORITE!!! I know I've said that like 5 times already but this whole part really is. That amazing guitar or w/e instrument that is works SO well with their eyesex from Games and it starts this amazing build-up of tension and realization on her part that maybe he's the one.
3:01 - every video has a money shot. I see it in other videos, and I see it in my own, and this shot? IS TOTALLY IT, *I* think. ♥ It's probably different for everyone but this is the shot that has been standing out to me everytime.
3:07 - the natural zoom on her face like that as she's staring at him (and I'm dying - HOW did I not absolutely FREAK OUT over this when the ep first aired?!) was really convenient because it emphasizes the fact that she's processing things. AND IT REMINDS ME OF THIS: "You know, one day you look at the person and you see something more than you did the night before. Like a switch has been flicked somewhere. And the person who was just a friend is... suddenly the only person you can ever imagine yourself with"
3:16 - FAVORITE. THE WAY SHE ROCKS LIKE THAT AND GETS THAT GRIN AND THE WAY HER HEAD GOES AND IDEK BUT SHE'S SO PRETTY. And him verbalizing it like that kind of shocks her a little, but she's starting to get it. Everyone can see it.
3:20 - btw that is completely intentional. I always freak out when I use black because I worry you will think there was a glitch or something. I started out having it cut to black like that, and then I just extended her scene to fill it in, but it didn't feel right so I went back to black. IDEK why you needed to know that, but, there is is lol.
3:32 - that cymbal crash. ALL I COULD THINK WAS "EYELASHES".
3:34 - SDFKJSHDAJFAS HI, I HAVE A NARRATOR JUST LIKE A REAL MOVIE TRAILER. And her name is GILLIAN ANDERSON. I started this video not even having this in mind, but as I was doing it and doing the story and adding Stacy and Cameron and alll of that stuff, all I kept thinking was this line. It kept me on track and helped me keep my storyline in focus and then I thought, "you know what? i might actually be able to put it in." SO I DID. I worry about how people who don't watch the X-Files will feel about it, and that makes me nervous, but I still stand by it and I'm glad I was able to give this video some more structure like that in the form of a quote. And my mom had trouble understanding her, so here:

And in this section, they both have a shot where they finally see them. My dance teacher gave a speech once about how she ended up coaching for us and she said, "Things happen in your life, and you don't know why at the time, but then, something comes along that makes you stop and think, 'This is why.'" And that's what this scene is to me.

3:51 - just_schtupp! Thank you so much!! I begged my flist for this clip because I just knew it had to go here, and Grace was so on top of things and totally saved my ass.
3:55 - timing, her hand on "something". AND IT KILLS ME, OKAY. This is one of my favorite House/Cuddy moments OF ALL TIME. Even though it was sad. And originally, I had the card start to glow once it fell in the trash, and it looked SO badass, but I killed the idea because I couldn't find a clip to follow it that would make sense. My history teacher always said that there are going to be things you like or ideas that you hold onto just because you like them, but sometimes you have to just "kill your children" for the greater good of your project. So I obviously, took that to heart LOL. He'd be proud.
4:07 - this has got to be the most full-on, electric eyesex I have ever seen any two people have anywhere ever. SO blatant, dudes.
4:20 - this video gave me hell in the sense that it took forever to fill in the end. because it's so repetitive. I can only vid "tears stream down your face" so many times, especially when nobody ever fucking cries on this show. BUT THEN! after listening to it for the 100th time, I like, saw her opening the window on that cymbal crash again. And then I executed it and it totally worked.
4:21 - "I promise you I will learn from my mistakes". IDK if she's buying it or not, but this is him trying to tell her that he cares enough to keep her. AND THEN. I had to cut the hell out of it to make it work, but watch her speak on "mistakes".
4:32 - favorite.
4:35 - LOOK AT HIM LOOKING DOWN AT HER LIKE HE'S CONCERNED. HOW DID I NOT NOTICE THIS WHEN THE ACTUAL EP CAME. and then watch the timing on her, she steps right on that crash.
4:45 - I'd feel weird not saying something about this, but I really don't know what to say because it's self-explanatory. They found it. ♥
4:52 - he ignites her. And this is what she'd been missing in all of those previous relationships - that spark.
5:01 - I really wanted to give the impression that this was happening at night and give the illusion/feeling that they'd be up all night talking. ♥
Carlee, this probably wasn't at all what you were expecting, but I hope you're able to enjoy it all the same. ♥ I didn't really have a choice - it just happened lol. I AM MERELY A VEHICLE.
