Jenny's still in the hospital and visiting hours are a bitch, so after landing and checking in with her best friend, she makes a trek. Not to the house but to a little place in DC, a place she knows she shouldn't visit. She hadn't expected it to come upon them this fast, but she's not surprised either. Her life is an open book to the US Marshals ( Read more... )

The wine wasn't needed. Catherine had already stocked back up on booze, and had an abundance of it stored up in the fridge and the liquor cabinets, just as a precaution. The afternoon she her boss had confronted her about her relationship with Liz, she had gone straight from work to the nearest liquor store and had nearly cleared the damn place out of stock.

She was expecting Liz. She knew she looked like hell, but that was the least of her worries. The last thing she was worried about was keeping up appearances with this shitstorm going on. All she cared about was figuring out what the hell was going on, so when she walked to the door to answer it, she was dressed in a tank top and some old sweats she still had from when she was pregnant with Lindsey. The final touch was a messy ponytail and a beer bottle in her left hand.

Without bothering to look through the peephole, Catherine opened the door and simply stared at Liz. She didn't bother to say anything. No words were really needed.

Liz opens her mouth to speak, closes it, and then opens it again and this time, the Director she used to be takes over. She can hold her own with Jenny, she can damned well hold her own with Catherine. After a moment she sighs, shifts her weight, and looks her lover directly in the eyes. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you everything. If I'd known how fast and hard this was going to be, I'd have said something the first night and let you make your determinations. But I'm used to hiding, Catherine. Legally, I'm supposed to. And if you let me in the door, I'll tell you everything. Everything. I also understand if you don't want to let me in." She swallows and waits. Please, please, let her in. Please.

In truth, Catherine wasn't expecting that. At all. She didn't really know what she had been expecting, but it hadn't been that. That was why she had known from the start that things were going to be different with Liz. Because she wasn't like anyone else she had ever been with before. She was honest, and actually gave a damn about what Catherine thought and felt and wanted.

She wasn't mad. Not at Liz. She was seething, yes, but not because of her. A small part of her was hurt that she hadn't told her everything, but she hadn't told Liz her life story, either. It wasn't really fair to expect that much so early... and it was going to take a lot more than that to make Catherine think they weren't going to work.

So she stepped aside and motioned for her to come in. Already, she was feeling better just having Liz here. Lighter. Still pissed, but it was helping to dull the sting a little. "Want a beer?"

Liz steps into the townhouse and takes a breath. "Please," she says in response to the beer. She wants to kiss Catherine hello, but she has a feeling it would be better if they talked first.
