Theaters and tea...

I'm looking for a tea house. A tea house that has a wide variety of teas, and the proper food to go along with it like scones, desserts, sandwiches and salads. Some place that looks like a nice English tea house should. Not like a Starbucks ( Read more... )

There are some good tea houses, I hear.

Movies I can be more helpful. The major theatres are Century Rio 24 on Jefferson off of I-25 (the one you saw, I assume, with the restaurants, they sprang up to leech off of the movie crowd). There's also a Century 14, same concept but much smaller and it's downtown at 1st and Central. It has a parking garage a couple of blocks to the south of it, free with movie ticket. The Guild is the foreign and independent theatre for the area, I suppose. It's on Central near Carlisle or something, it's on the west side of the street, has a big blue sign. Just watched Mirrormask there tonight, I enjoyed it. We also have the Winrock 6 just north of Winrock mall, both the theatre and mall are dying. I don't know about any other theatres, we used to have a bunch, but the Century franchise has for the most part killed them off. Hell, I'm told the Century Rio 24 (where I work) is the busiest movie theatre in the southwest.

for indie/foreign movies there is the guild that syrax mentioned, but the century 14 downtown also plays a lot of indie films. as does... i think its called High Ridge on Indian School and Tramway, right behind hinkle fun center.

the movie theater you are speaking of on Paseo and coors is a dollar movie theater, as is the movies 8 location on san mateo, north of montgomery.

there are others... too. at one point albuquerque had more theaters per capita than anywhere in the country.

I believe the St. James Tearoom in Old Town (fairly close to I-40 and Rio Grande) is excellent for tea.
They're reservation only and serve you lots of different teas (with a tea menu) for 3 hours with tiny finger foods. Their scones, which they serve with lemon curd and clotted cream, are delicious.
Pricewise it's about $22 a person.

It definately has a sense of occasion.

St. James is great. I celebrated my birthday there a few years ago. It was a wonderful afternoon.

Yep, St. James Tea Room is what you want.

For movie theaters, there's also Century Downtown at Central and 1st (parking on 2nd in the parking structure). There's also Cinemark on San Mateo for $2 movies.

Have you picked up an Alibi newspaper?

there's the theater the Guide that does a lot of alternative films (ie not mainstream Hollywood)
I'm not sure of the address, but if you check in the Friday newspaper, where all the movie review are, they give the addresses of all the theaters in town.
