Alright! Another song for my
Hall of Fame... It's "Gethsemane" from Jesus Christ Superstar. This is Jesus' big soliloquy in the Garden of Gethsemane, just before Judas betrays him with a kiss and the Romans get him.. The other Apostles are all asleep having had a bit too much bread and wine at the Last Supper.
Jesus is being a bit melancholy and melodramatic, knowing his end is nigh... after trying to do his thing for three years... seems like thirty... asking God why he should die, and all that. Then at the end, in typical JCS fashion, he takes a rip and says "God thy will is hard, but you hold every card. I will drink your cup of poison, Nail me to your cross and break me. Bleed me, beat me, kill me, take me now.... Before I change my mind..." Great stuff.
