OK, I'm Here. Now What?

Well, after listening to various complaints about LJ, and after one nearly complete defection from same, I decided to finally break down and make a presence here (at Dreamwidth), too. ::looks around at empty space ( Read more... )

I friended you there! 8^) I was first! *is excited* I'm 'janus' there. I'm only verus_janus here because janus was taken.

::hugs you:: Thank you!! :-) I've friended you back and subscribed to your journal so that I don't miss a thing. ::g:: So, do you so most of your posting on Dreamwidth or LJ and which do you prefer/ pay the most attention to? Since Delphi defected I've been pondering about this, and starting over in this new space seems a bit overwhelming at the moment.

Dreamwidth has a beautiful feature, where you can crosspost to LJ! That is what I do. I post there, and it also posts here. You go to your Profile, then on the left side to Manage Accounts an to the tab Other Sites. You can select the account you would like to post to there. Then, when you make a post, there are ticky boxes at the bottom for the other accounts. I hope that is relatively clear.

The people at Dreamwidth are good people and I absolutely support them. I post fewer of the RL posts there, partly because I have so few friends there, and partly because I feel a bit shy about posting personal things at all.

I'm on Dreamwidth but only in name.

LJ is just fine for me.

I think that's the way it will be for me for the time being, too. :-)

I have a dreamwidth account - it's a handy backup for all information on LJ. Very fast back-up, too. But I never use it. LJ is fine for me.

Can you (easily) transfer what's on your LJ to Dreamwidth? I intend to stay with LJ until they really give me a reason not to, but it would be nice to be able to move if need be without losing anything.

Yes, you go to your homepage on dreamwidth, you select "organise", and you choose 'import content'. Then you follow the steps, and within 2 minutes or so all your journal posts and comments are imported.

I never select to import userpics, since I have way over 15 on LJ and just the standard 15 at dreamwidth.

It's very easy, and very handy. The one thing that doesn't always work is importing videos. One has to transfer the imbed code manually.

I have a DW account, same username, hardly use it tbh. I *think* linking posts is relatively straightforward and is dealt with in either LJ or DW help.

I figured out the linking bits pretty quickly. DW isn't, on the surface, much different from LJ, but that's a handy feature to have that LJ doesn't, and smart thinking on their parts.

I have one but I hate it and I think I made a new one but I can't remember what I called it. (Yes, I am super smooth.) My main problem is that I love having two underscores (no matter how inconvenient it is for other people) because I love the amount of space between the words. Unfortunately, Dreamwidth and Livejournal don't allow that; I only have my screen name because I'm an oldbie and picked out my name before dual underscores were banned. I'll admit it makes me feel a little bit special for having been here so long. :Þ

Once I set up a DW account properly again I'll give you an add! :D

Why would they ban dual underscores? ::iz cornfuzed:: Oh well, that's not an issue for me and my rather unimaginative screen name. ^_^ . Add away, dearie! I'll be staying put on LJ in any case until they force me to leave due to dunderheadedness. I'm hoping that won't be anytime soon!
