[Sherlock Holmes ACD] --- Nightmare

Apr 12, 2009 16:41

Title: Nightmare
Author: Alaylith
Rating: K
Universe: ACD
Characters: Watson, Holmes
WordCount: 306
Summary: A horrid nightmare.
Warnings: first writing of a prompt and not good in English?

A/N: Now I tried myself on a prompt (had this little bunny for months now) and I don't know what I should think about it. I like this type of writing (get one word and write a story), but I am not sure I meet the requirements for good SH stories, even though I am reading them for almost ten years! :/
I also wrote for the first time directly in English (mothertongue is German) and I feel like a tumbling idiot. <.<
I still hope you like the story a little bit and it is not too hard to read/understand. ;)

I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. My lungs were burning and my heart beat inside my chest. The way was endless and I was tripping over thousands stones.

In the distance the great Reichenbach Falls were towering and the mountains threw dark shadows on my way.

I couldn't say how long I ran, but finally - finally! - I heard the rushing of the water and saw the great waterfall.

And there was he.

He stood proud, his silhouette framed by water, just as he was when I left him.

Breathing hard I stood behind him, trying to calm my heart.

"Holmes."

He raised his head and slightly turned to look at me.

Hope rised in my soul and a slow smile came to my lips, but then he turned around and I could see that he was holding a little bundle in his arms.

"Your child is very beautiful," said Holmes and looked down to the bundle. A small hand reached out and I recognized it immediately even seeing it only once.

"It has your eyes."

A lump formed in my throat and I raised my hands.

"Holmes…"

He raised his eyes and my heart stopped.

His eyes were a dark, cold grey as I have never seen them before and never wish to see again. They bore into me and burned my soul.

"Sadly you are too late, my dear friend. Always too late…"

And the next moment Holmes took a step back and fell over the edge into the depths of water followed by my cry of dismay…

.

My room was dark, not even the moon shone through the window. I sat up in my cold bed not caring about the tears on my cheeks.

No matter how often I had the nightmare it would never be so cruel as reality.
