The plot bunny didn't want to leave me alone, so I had to write it. XD
And if anything seems weird to you, it may be because this is a translation - my first language is German.

I hope you like it!

With utmost concentration I held the test tube with my hand, while I took the powder with my other and poured it carefully into the tube.

It only took seconds until the fluid turned red and I jumped with a sharp shout of joy - only to knock the cup with tea at my elbow to the ground, shattering it.

„Holmes!“

I turned to my friend and colleague, who was standing before the chimney with crossed arms, staring reproachfully at me and I shot him a charming grin.

„Apologies, my dear Watson,“ I said and waved with the test tube.
„But I am holding here an important evidence in the murder case of Davison.”

„And this is a good evidence for your clumsiness,” he answered pointing to the destroyed cup and I waved his comment away.

„I will pay it, Mrs. Hudson should not be angered about something like this.”

„You also said that when you burned the curtains - again!” muttered Watson and I laughed shortly, before running to my room to get dressed - I had to tell the Yard about my discovery.

I was just about to take my scarf, when a small gasp rang out and curiously I went to my door to look into the sitting room.

Watson was kneeling beside the chemistry bank and had a finger in his mouth, his face contorted to a grimace of slight pain and annoyance.

„Whose clumsiness is proven here now?” I could not resist saying and Watson shot me a long suffering look, before he rose to get his medical bag out of the corner.

He tried to open it in vain with his left hand, while is right hand still rested at his mouth and I went to his side with a sigh.

„Let me.“

Again he shot me a annoyed look, but let me have access to the bag, which I opened and searched for a bandage.

„Now show me your bad finger.“

Noiselessly he rolled his eyes and pulled his finger out of his mouth with a smacking sound and hold it out to me for inspection. I took his hand, turned it to the light and saw the long cut which began to bleed again.

Suddenly I stiffened at the sight. Only some months had passed since Watson and I began our sharing residence in the Baker Street. In this time we grew from simple fellow lodgers to some kind of partners and I valued his companionship.

I have never seen him hurt before, even so he attended to some of my own scratches. For the very first time I saw his blood and could not control my astonishment.

I had seen a lot of blood in my profession, including my own. But for the first time it was not blood shed in a case, showing me traces to the culprit, no blood helping me with my chemical research. No blood streamed in the high of the chase. And it was no blood of a stranger, a human I saw with coldness and professionalism.

This was the blood of John Watson, a man I learned to honor and value in the short time I knew him. For the first time I recognized how valuable blood could be, because this blood fulfilled this man with warmth and life, it gave him the air to breath and the power to stand by me.

Never before saw I blood with this kind of admiration like this here.

Only vaguely did I hear the voice of my friend and surprised I looked into his hazel eyes, in their depth a warmth hidden which I could not place and I saw that he knew more than he showed.

Maybe even more than I knew.

„I do not think the cut will yield like the culprits when you stare at it,” he said amused, but his voice was colored with warmth.

I shook myself out of my stupor and began to bandage his finger, asking myself if every wound that would scar his body in the future, would also scar my very soul.
