Author's Note: Got a little bit carried away from the prompt, but this just wanted to be written. We are jumping back to the first half of my story, right before Falling. Slowly it gets a little bit confusing. XD I am curious what will happen next, the story is just as surprising for me as it is for you. :b
Oh and now we finally got a timeline for this story - post-hiatus! :) Not that this is very important, but it just happened now. ^^

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Holmes stands on the edge of Reichenbach Falls and looks down into the depths of the water.
Watson hears his own heart pounding loudly in his chest and his mouth goes dry with fear.

Holmes turns towards him and a smile curves his lips with blood dripping from the corner of his mouth. “Follow me,” he whispers and takes a step back into the abyss.

Watson cries horrified and jumps forward to catch him, but his desperate hands grasp empty air and his foot slips over the edge.

As he falls into the darkness he can see Holmes’ figure beneath him, his arms spread wide as if he were flying.

Watson reaches one hand down, trying to grasp his friend and his fingers are just inches away from Holmes, when -

“Watson?”

Watson opens his eyes and blinks confused at the ceiling. The fire in the fireplace is shimmering lightly, pale moonlight shines through the window and Holmes’ face is illuminated by the light of the candle he holds.

“Watson?” he asks again and Watson looks up at him. “What is it? What time is it?”
“It’s midnight, my friend; it is time for us to go.”

Watson shakes his head a bit and sits up on the settee, a blanket pooling in his lap. “Did I fall asleep?”

“Very good, Doctor, your observing skills are getting better and better,” Holmes teases with a small smile, but then he frowns worriedly. “Are you alright? Your sleep was… not calm.”

Watson blinks. “I can not remember.”
Holmes looks at him sharply, but lets the topic rest and steps away. “We have to go.”

Watson stands and as he looks at the painting of the Reichenbach Falls over the fireplace he can not suppress a shudder.

Somehow he feels as if he were falling and he smothers the urge to take Holmes’ arm.

“Watson?” Holmes asks again, silent worry emanating from his voice and Watson turns away from the painting.

“I am coming, Holmes.” As he falls into step behind his friend Watson silently vows that he will not let Holmes fall.

Or they are going to fall together.
