Title: To follow
Author: Alaylith
Rating: G
Characters: Watson; Holmes; Mycroft (somehow)
Summary: To follow a white bunny and a talk with a caterpillar. (July Prompt 6)
WordCount: 459
Prompt: July 6 ~~~ Wacky, off-the-wall crossover - the weirder, the better.
Author's Note: You don't make it easy for me to meet my personal challenge (connect all July prompts to one big story), ya know. <.<" It is not a huge crossover, but I wish to reach my own goal with these stories and this was the only way for me to do it. Thanks to my mother for part of the idea. :)
This happens sometime after Nightly Storm, but can be read on its own as always.

London is BIG.

That’s the first thought which enters Watson’s mind as he stands in the middle of the street and looks up at the huge buildings.

He is not bigger than a mouse and the world around him is huge beyond his imagination. All people walking down the streets are just mere shadows without faces.

Watson stares around in wonderment, when the wind carries a weird voice towards him.

“The game is afoot! The game is afoot!” The voice is a high squeal and as Watson turns around he is surprised to see a white bunny with grey eyes running towards him with a huge magnifying glass in its … paw and with a coat flying behind its shoulders.

“The game is afoot! The game is afoot!” the bunny squeals again and runs several circles around Watson, before it continues down the street.

Watson blinks and he feels like he has to follow the bunny, but just as he takes a step forward there is an amused chuckle behind him.

“Are you sure you wish to follow him?”

He turns around to see a big, fat caterpillar on the edge of the kerbside and the caterpillar has the same grey eyes as the bunny.

“Or did you already followed him?” the caterpillar continues and Watson shakes his head bemused.

“What are you talking about?”

“Is that not the reason that you’re here? Because you followed him?” the caterpillar says. “Or are you here because you wish to follow him? Or maybe…”

The caterpillar grins slightly. “You ARE already following him?” It starts to worm its way over the kerbside.

“Do we take a path to follow someone or do we follow someone to take a path? Do we follow because they want us to or do we follow because we want to? Does it even matter why we follow just as long as we follow?

Why should we follow at all?”

The caterpillar disappears behind the edge and Watson stays in the middle of the road dumbfounded.

In the distance he can hear the squeals of the bunny again and with a determined step he goes in the direction in which the bunny disappeared.

Just to realize that he has opened his eyes and is staring at the ceiling of Holmes’ room. Watson blinks and then turns his head to see Holmes sleeping in a chair beside the bed.

Watson can feel the lasting effects of a high fever and swallows over his dry throat. But he smiles lightly as he watches his friend sleep.

And for just a moment he is sure that Holmes has long white ears.

Holmes was never happier as now as he awakens to the sound of the laughter of his dearest friend.
