From EW.com and Variety (via TORn): Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have all signed on to write the screenplay for "The Hobbit" and the second film.

I'm so excited that they will be working on writing the script for this. I don't think it would have been the same if they wouldn't have.

It wouldn't be the same at all. I know it has to be a bit different - the tone of the book isn't the same as LOTR - but there wil be a lot more continuity this way. And I'm hoping that we'll get some more elvish translations from Mirkwood and Rivendell too.
