One of the things I've noticed since I got back from Greece and Turkey is that I'm feeling a detachment from my former favorite Greek deity. The first time I went, I fell in love with Ephesus (I still am a bit), and so it was natural to take Artemis at Ephesus as a patron, in some ways. I've adopted variations on her name, and on the name Kybele ( ( Read more... )

Lovely post... There's some beautiful writing here, too:

p.s. Guest blog this Friday? If the slot is still free... Public accountability, as I am commenting here! *g*

Thanks! And yes, this Friday would be excellent. The only person you'd be competing with is an excerpt from Karen Armstrong's History of Myth, and I don't think she'll mind (since I rather suspect she's not a frequenter of this blog...)

You should write more stuff like this, it's cool to read.

Usually when I write things like this, it's entirely unplanned--they require a lot of musing! But I'm glad you enjoyed it... and I may actually have one coming up shortly about Glastonbury (another place of pilgrimage for me), as I'm setting a short story there. ;) I'd like to do one on sacred landscape in Connecticut as well (particularly given the Thimbles and the Sleeping Giant), but that one is still percolating.
