I'll try to do a better job that Gerry Adams of not speaking ill of the dead -- ( ... attempting. )

I'm slightly surprised at how little I feel. I thought I'd be elated, but the fact is, she was an old woman who had long since accomplished all the harm she was ever likely to cause in the World, and apart from a sensation of "about bloody time", I don't have a lot to say about it. I'd have been a lot happier if she'd died about thirty years earlier if I'm honest.

I did feel a twinge of sadness that I don't know all the words to "Ding, Dong, the Witch is Dead" though.

Valiant effort on the "not speaking ill" thing by the way, but I try not to be hypocritical about these things. I didn't have a single good word to say about her in life, and I'll be damned if I pretend that I have anything good to say about her just because she's stopped breathing.

I'm listening to "call me Dave" on the TV right now, and disagreeing with just about every word out of his mouth, so I don't think I've changed my mind on much... But as you say, just seems far from topical. She was indeed doing little harm where she was... and now we have to put up with a solid week of Tory '80s nostagia, capped off with gun carriages and military guards of honour. Unlike many other younger (and in the mean, posher to boot) Conservatives. In which light I do find it understandable there's parties in the streets of Glasgow, Liverpool, and West Belfast.

I was just reading glosswatch's take on "gendered" rhetoric on The Thatch, and I'm endeavouring to take a week off from that, too. Bit ironic from someone who blogs from a signoff ending in "witch", mind, but I take her point.

Ed M. is now going long on the gendery stuff...
