Free bike tyres!  Well, free apart from the mandatory fitting charge (no fitting them yourself), and nearly having to shell out for busfare home, as it was a little touch and go whether they'd be done "while I waited".  All thanks to the latest Continental tyres promo, to wit their "tyre amnesty".  Repent of your previous choice of pneumatic rubber ( Read more... )

That's not a bad deal! When the car scrappage scheme came out a few years ago, one chain of motorbike shops ran a 'crappage scheme', in which you could trade in any household item you didn't want for money off a helmet.

It's an excellent deal! Apparently very limited availability, though, so I was amazed there was any left. Notionally the tyres and tubes are worth about €90, which is more than I'd normally pay for such. But the fitting charge is still less than even what one cheapo tyre would cost, and I was badly in need of at least one new tyre. One of the worst-lumps-of-rubber previously mentioned was actually what I earlier thought was the best spare tyre I had to hand (I somewhat revised that opinion after seeing it mounted, but was too lazy to change it again to some other marginal such), so it's what I'd been using to cycle around on, even before I decided to "downgrade" the other one.

I think Continental make car and motorbike tyres too, so I was envisaging you turning up at a dealer and demanding the same thing!

I do like the idea of the random item trade-in. I hope some customers took this as a challenge to bring as surreal an object in as possible...
