The journey began with an airplane nick'd out from under us.  Two hours after our originally scheduled departure the pilot shared with us that the plane had also been taken from him.  I felt acceptance because we were scooting out to the runway ( Read more... )

Which reminds me, when next I go to Indianapolis (this coming Monday), should I bring you back some burgers?

And did you try the chicken rings?

As a former New Yorker/East Coast person, I do miss White Castle and their steamed burgers, frozen is ok but nothing beats a slider fresh from the grille. I am glad you got back safely.

YOU RAT BASTID SONUFABEETCH, NOT ONLY DID YOU HAVE REAL WHITE CASTLES BUT YOU HAD REAL --CHICAGO-- WHITE CASTLES.

I'm hating you just a wee leetle bit right now. ;)~

Like the Captain sez, nothing beats a fresh slider... the frozen ones work OK (experimentation with the microwave can almost achieve the proper texture) in a pinch, but I sure do miss the real thing.

Oh, and in NYC, you used to have to ASK for the pickle. And frankly, they should be had pickle-less anyway.

Now, don't get me started on how much I miss NATHAN'S hot dogs... sigh.

I forget- did I take you for your first, or was that Chaz? And didn't we "infect" Michael Mason and James Briggs at the same time?

I'd had my "first time" at the L.A. one, so very long ago, before it died. You took me to my first in the midwest. And turned my half forgotten interest into an obsession.

I do believe you initiated Michael and James into the White Castle fold. I think Michael Siladi was introduced at that SMOFcon too.

I must admit that the highlight of my food experience's from Capricon 29 was the trip to Johnnie's for italian beef. I won't go into any detail, but now I know why its so important for the people who "go to the holy land", or "go to mecca". This was the same for me. A religious experience through my taste buds.

Long before I moved to Minneapolis, I was told that they did not even use the highest grade oatmeal in their burgers, and so even though I lived in the Twin Cities for seven years, I have never eaten anything from White Castle.
