ZOMG! Content Strike!
On Friday 21 March 2008, from midnight to midnight GMT, there will be a content strike on LiveJournal to protest the recent changes regarding Basic account registration. I, for one, will not be participating. I will make a point to post more in those 24 hours than I have in the past few months, be the posts meaningless bullshit or insightful prose. I will not succumb to the peer pressure put forth by a coalition consisting of mostly Paid account holders.
I believe that ad-support is good for LiveJournal. My LJ blog is ad-supported and I don't care. Yes, LiveJournal is making money off our posts, but we agreed to let them when we agreed to the Terms of Service. Also, as anyone who has tried to pay for a site with advertising can attest, ad revenue is infinitesimally insignificant. Paying for the server farm that is necessary to house all the data generated by the bloggers is, I'm sure, no short order. There are over 15 million accounts registered on LJ, only a small portion of which are actually active (1.75 million) and a large portion of those accounts have never posted once (9.15 million).
If you are unfamiliar with the Terms of Service you agreed to when you joined LiveJournal, why should anyone else have to deal with your complaints because you failed to read the document you were agreeing to?
