It started before I even clicked the link. I saw the chapter title and I knew it was about Ichigo and that I'd be crying before the end. What I didn't know was that I'd actually sob and that even the flashback sex would batter my heart.
I can't seem to make the tears stop. 'Watching' Ichigo walk all that way and realize no one is still waiting for him. 'Seeing' him realize how alone he really is and the enormity of his trek. But 'hearing' him still say "when I get back", made me both desolate and euphoric; because even though he doesn't doubt he will get home, he has so very far to go

Oh my, I had no idea this chapter would spark such a flood! I'd hoped the dream loving would be a better buffer. It's so hard to read a story like this as a serial - the sad bits seem to drag on, and the happy bits get lost. When the story is taken as a whole, I think it's a little easier to digest some of the angst, because you don't have to wait for the next chapter

Jumping in on this, because I have various versions of a Byakuya/Hisana, Rukia story running around on my harddrive...
It seems many people don't realize the depth of Byakuya's love for Hisana, or give her credit for loving him back just as intently. Granted we don't get to see much of her, but just because she spent years trying to atone for her mistake doesn't make her any less of a loving wife. I think Byakuya would have truly valued finding someone with such a sense of honour. The one time we see her she says something about how she regretted not returning his love. My personal theory on that was that she simply didn't have the energy or the feeling of self-worth to feel her love for him. I think she did love him, but also I see her as being very obsessed with finding Rukia, to the point where her relationship with him suffers. And he, of course, adores her and becomes increasingly frightened as she wears herself away searching for Rukia. Which of course leads to some issues when he actually finds Rukia, because she looks Hisana,

I always took that as her personal guilt at spending so much time searching for Rukia, and not truly representative of her actual feelings for Byakuya. I'm sure the relationship did suffer because of her goal, hence her feeling like she hadn't cared enough, but I choose to believe she loved him just as much. :)
Is that story you have in mind ultimately Bya/Ruki, or just Byakuya learning to let go of the Hisana angle and accept Rukia as a sibling?
Ichigo is tough as nails, doing his best to claw his way back. Renji's love shines pretty brightly... just thinking about what he's going through provokes a Rukia-like reaction! *sniffle*
Renji could use a bit of cuddling, since all he's got in his arms right now are some blankets. ;) Sadly, I don't think Ichigo would approve. *grin*
Ichigo needs Unohana for sure. He's patched himself up as best he can, and he's done so well enough that he can travel and fight, but really nothing compares to Unohana working her magic. She could fix him right up, if only he wasn't lost.
It's a very intense experience for her. She's worried for her friend, too, but feeling the depth of Renji's love is pretty overwhelming. *gives tissues*
