Alright. Today's the day I traditionally update my will. I didn't do so last year, because there were possibilities developing in the heir department that needed to resolve themselves. I didn't do so in 2011, for no good reason ( Read more... )

If there are items that you think may have value, please get them appraised or at least mention them specifically in your will. I only mention this because we had a relative who did not do this. After the relative passed away, my mom happened to find a watch among her valuables that she liked. She wore it around a while, and eventually took it in for cleaning. The jewelry store valued the watch at over $1000. :0 We had no idea.
I am sure your collection of hotel shampoo will be especially valuable. ;)

Today I was handed a will to sign only because everything has pretty much changed since the wedding. Earlier this week we went to look through boxes of books and furniture that were left by an SCA friend who passed. Everything was well sorted and organized which is seldom the case. Having a record of everything you own and its value can be useful for all sorts of things - the insurance company, the police, anyone who has to deal with it after you go. It's very useful if you have a lot of odd things that don't look like they're worth anything or you have things that carry history like a box built by your great grandfather.
