There was a lake in Scotland which was an amazing blue green, apparently from the copper sulfate leached out of the rock. It too was unearthly to look at.
The slag from the old iron mill that you find in the woods in my home town is that color, too. Presumably for similar reasons. It's very pretty stuff, and I keep wishing I had some to try tumbling.
