My, my -

[The voice that speaks should be easily recognisable to most people here. Schneizel speaks, as usual, without panic, without anger - just a small, perhaps bemused, smile and a hint of mild interest.]- it would be a gross exaggeration on my part to say that I had been gone for more than an hour, but it seems that such has not been the case ( Read more... )

I have my theories, Schneizel. [ But his reappearance without knowledge or sighting of Cornelia during his absence eliminates a few of those. ]

She is not, however, the only one to disappear in recent times. Our resources are spread thin, and following leads has proven... problematic. [ To say the least. Of course, Guilford is none too happy about this, and he actually sounds weary to be discussing it. ]

[The furrowed brow, the perturbed frown, is something that just carries in his voice.] Indeed. We haven't the resources to look for our missing, especially when loss is easily attributed to the ebb and flow of our numbers here.

However, I would never judge that my sister had left without proof.

[Because she has this habit of cropping up again, which is one reason why he never panicked when she disappeared after Tokyo, one reason why he shot her in the back.]

To be frank, a random disappearance like this concerns me.

Nor would I. [ Though he hesitates to, it might as well be admitted that, ] I have not yet asked the Guardian, nor the Queen for confirmation. [ He also figures any answer could just as easily be a lie. ]

Her disappearance -- and your own -- were suspiciously timed.

Mm. And I would be hesitant to do so. Not only are we without the means to verify their words, we may well find ourselves in debt for them.

[A brief, thoughtful pause. The most minute of sighs as he shifts.]

The fae have been subdued lately. What about the residents?

[A smile slowly crawls across his face as he listens to what his dearest older brother has to say.]

Lying low? [A chuckle] I suppose one could say that.

Why, I'd wondered if you'd disappeared again.

[Cordial and cool as ever, of course.]

I hope you haven't found undue difficulty, Lelouch.

The situations I've found myself in since my return to Demeleier are neither here nor there, my dearest brother. My concern, at the moment, is your recent whereabouts.

[A pause]

I trust you are well?

Naturally. The excursion may be somewhat ill-timed, but it may well be refreshing to return for a time.

And what of you, then?

[He knows that voice. Goddammit, no one else has a voice like that, do they?]

Huh?

[Are they all coming back now? Teddie, Aureln, Schneizel? Maybe Rise and Chie too? Yosuke feels his heart swell in his chest, hope rise and soar, and a smile breaks out over his face.]

Schneizel!

Schneizel - you goddamn - [He gives a laugh.] You're back! Do you have any idea what kind of a heart attack you gave all of us, just waltzing off like that one day?!

[He laughs, feeling much lighter. And now Val will be more like her usual self too, not moping around and really depressed and...

Oh.

Shit.]

Surprisingly quiet, if I'm honest. We've seen a few fae around, but that's about it. Quite a lot of residents have taken advantage of the quiet to set about hunting or gathering materials.

[The approval in his voice is quite strong. He appreciates the way that the community pulls together - in his past place, there was always some contention.]

[And it's something mirrored in Schneizel's tone, that approval.]

We have a strong core of people here. I'm glad that my expectations have been met in such a way - I doubt that it will remain quiet, but by standing together we may weather such storms as fate brings.

[ There's a sharp, sudden intake of breath as gloved fingers trip over keys in their hurry and activate the communication device prematurely. She knows that voice. She knows that voice and it's that firm recognition that shakes the remnants of a death-like sleep from her, that causes her to sit up suddenly and draw the device close enough to hear with greatest clarity -- ]

Schneizel...?

[ A light thump follows, as of someone's back falling against some hard surface, and then, silence. Silence for the sudden surge of emotion that so easily overwhelms her and robs her of her words, if only for a minute. Her decision is made, has been made since long before he issued that question. She's already moving from her bed, and audibly, at that, but it's the inflection of her voice that speaks and speaks volumes. It is a tell in and of itself. ]

I -- yes, of course! I --

[ Have much so much I want to say and I'm not even sure where to begin. She takes a slow, quiet breath, unable to help the smile spreading across her face. Joyful, painful, ( ... )

[The nature of her response doesn't surprise him. There's little arrogance or pride in the knowledge that it's for him - nothing but a plain, simple sort of acceptance. But he does smile, and the expression is genuine.

It hasn't been long since he last spoke to her, on his side. Therefore it wasn't a case of missing her, or feeling lost. But there is a faint joy at being reunited with her for the fact that she is stalwart and trustworthy and someone he's very fond of.

So when he speaks, it's warm and rich, not quite so firm as before. There's a softness there that needn't be exaggerated.]

Now, that's far more reassuring than quiet. I will wait for you here.

[Which is, of course, a yes.]

[ And a yes is all that she needs to invoke the familiar hum of her materia.
