They had left the dorm together and taken the train over to Port Island Station, where there was a nice cafe and a movie theatre, which apparently was playing only Christmas movies tonight. "It's freezing out here," he lamented, glancing sidelong at her. Then realized that it was probably not setting the right mood to be complaining. "But the lights are nice, huh?" he added lamely, gesturing up at the christmas decorations that hung over the plaza.

They sat down and Akihiko looked at his menu for a moment, then looked up. "I uh...have something for you," he said awkwardly, fingering the box in his pocket. Maybe it would be best to get this over with, so it'd stop burning a hole in his pants and making him feel like he should say something.

Mitsuru was used to this sort of restaurant, and shed her coat comfortably when they reached the table, hanging it over the back of her chair and smoothing her skirt serenely as she sat down.
"Ah-- you do?" she replied, a little surprised. "I'm sorry, I left my present for you at home, I thought that we all agreed to exchange gifts on Christmas morning..."
