There are things that I observe in fandoms (some more than others) that tend to make me cringe. Specifically, a set of things revolving around certain character(s) and/or pairing(s). I try to stay as far away from these sorts of things as possible (and I'm grateful that I've never really been directly involved in something like this), but

Seriously. Like who you want. Ship who you want. Respect that other people may have different opinions. Disliking something is no excuse for bashing.

If more people on the internet followed this...*sigh* Well, sites like fandom wank and fandom secrets probably wouldn't need to exist. I really can't agree with you more. There are pairings that I don't get or even just don't like, but I don't want to be rude or judge other people that like them. It's horrible.

Agreed. I go to fandom secrets occasionally and it always saddens me when I see secrets like "if you ship this, I judge you" or something like that. Fandom wank is something I won't even go near because it repulses me so much.
I'll admit (though I'm ashamed to) that when I was young and very new to the concept of fandom, I did bash a few characters I didn't care for. But I was just a stupid kid back then and I learned to grow out of it. Sometimes, it helps to restore my faith in humanity a little if I pretend that all of those type of fans are just young and ignorant of others' views like I was.
