My dear sweetie ladymondegreen has now graciously kicked my ass, and made me think about what I want.

I do want to finish the Ph.D. Basically - because I feel that by this point I've earned it. It's been slow, but I have done a good amount of good work. I haven't solved all the world's problems, but that's not what I need to do ( Read more... )

And, things not to do: reading anything non-work-related while at work. This includes but is not limited to the GCC mailing lists, FreeBSD mailing lists, fanfic, web boards for discussion of fanfic, Usenet, LiveJournal, or Slashdot.

Well, crap, what's the point of even having a computer, then?

Good to know that LMG kicked your ass. If she didn't, I'd be on the next plane down to NYC to do it myself.

I completely agree with the "you've earned it" remark. University degrees are just as much about sweat equity and fighting through bureaucratic crapola as they are about actually learning things. Considering my path to my B.S., I'd say I have a little bit of experience in the matter. :)

Keep your eyes on the prize, dude. It's not that far away.
