This may be a little 'out there', but I'd say Juugo. I'm not sure, but I could picture him being empathic and gentle, but also having that dark side you wanted.

Mmm, I totally see where the Sasori thought is coming from, and I was going to vote Sasori, but then I ended up typing Sasuke unconsciously, and I think that fits better!
