GL ending?

I just have to say I'm extremely disappointed that they are talking about Guiding Light being cancelled.  Obviously the Otalia storyline is key for me, but it has to be a decent show or else it wouldn't have been around for over 70 years ( Read more... )

I'm afraid there is no "if" about it. *sigh* I work for a CBS affiliate and the press release came down today. There is still a chance the show will be picked up by another network so all hope isn't lost. The timing is just puzzling since GL is getting a lot of buzz. No other daytime soap is getting the good press GL has been lately. Weird. Just... weird.

Fingers crossed Soap Net or something like that picks this show up and gives it a little love...

Sigh.. yeah.. that is what I meant by IF... having the show move to a different network...

It is very weird... one of the reasons was low viewership? But what do they think they are going to put in GL's place that will be better? An infomercial?? Sheesh..

ANYONE could pick it up as far as I'm concerned... Soap Net... Lifetime... hell they could move to SyFy with all of Alan's psychic crap... or just go heavy on Otalia and get Logo to pick it up! I don't really care at this point... I just don't want it cancelled. It's HISTORY! The longest running show EVER... it's insane to cancel it.

I friggin' hate TV executives.

It was the lowest rated soap on the networks, unfortunately. A part of me understands the move from a business perspective, but the show seemed to be gaining momentum. It felt like a very odd time to cancel it.

What's worse? It sounds like they'll put a game show in its place... or maybe another talk show. Ugh.

Oh.. I understand the business part of it.. but that model is outdated. They are going to have to figure out another way to make money from the shows other than advertising... I think they really need to go back to product placement... With the TiVo/DVR use going up to by the day that is the only way companies are going to be able to advertise anymore. People just skip the commercials now.
