Title: The Things We Can't Control
Author:
prettyoriannaPairing: Akame. Others to be added later.
Rating: NC-17.
Genre: crime drama au
Beta by: my cat Gemma.
Disclaimer: I don't own KAT-TUN, any of its members, any other JE people. I write this for fun and for other fans of these fine folks. But don't steal my plots, mmkay? I put a great deal of time into them except for when I'm randomly spastically spitting words onto a page. But I value those too...
Summary: Two criminals with vastly different styles meet by chance one day. They immediately clash but is that all they'll ever be? How much is fate and how much choice? And how will their meeting change the world around them?
Author's Note: Alas, alas, this is terribly short. I wanted to give you guys a nice loooooong update as a thank you for awesome patience, but even though I've written more than this, I keep rewriting stuff and I'm not sure where I put that paper with the notes and I'm worried if I don't at least put SOMETHING up, I'll completely lose my drive and you'll never get your update. That and something I ate today is trying to kill me which is killing my concentration. So instead you get one scene. This may be a Part 1 Part 2 thing or I may move the rest of the stuff to Chapter 112. No idea which.
BANNER BY DESHISORABA!! THE MOST AWESOME BANNER EVER AND I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO DISAGREES!
Warning: This gets graphic often occasionally, containing at the very least foul language, character death, nefarious crimes, rape, etc etc.

The Things We Can't Control Master PostChapter 110 ~Part One - The Detective~
The obvious first step in saving the boy Jiro kept was to talk to Katsuo-san’s cousin Ayumi in the hospital. Kame hadn’t realized just how difficult that would be. There were rules apparently which said only family could visit in the emergency room and it was made worse by the cop waiting to talk to her. The man wouldn’t let him in and he was pretty sure there wasn’t enough money to bribe his way in and still leave enough for the rescue.
Not only that but his attempt to get to see her was apparently very suspicious in the eyes of the police. He wanted to know why Kame was there trying to talk to her.
Kame was fully aware that his rescue of Jiro’s boy would mostly likely involve doing illegal things. He might even have to kill Jiro or his men to get it done. He hoped not, but he at least recognized the possibility was there. He couldn’t tell him the truth.
But he could tell them something that was nearly the truth and his concern over the girl was real enough anyway. “Her cousin in prison asked me to check on her for him since he can’t. I owe him and there aren’t many favors you can do for someone in jail that won’t put you in there yourself. If this is all he wants from me, I call myself lucky and just do it.”
The cop wasn’t convinced.
“Look, I know he might be lying to me one way or another but I figure there’s nothing harmful I can tell him. He already knows she’s here and that she was attacked. She was attacked, right?” The twins hadn’t trusted Katsuo-san’s motive but they had at least believed his story otherwise. It probably was true. But it wouldn’t hurt to find out for sure.
When it looked like the cop wasn’t going to answer him, Kame finally sighed and said, “Look, Detective…?”
“Nishikido.”
“Detective Nishikido, then. I understand you have a job to do but so do I. I may not get paid for it like you, but I can’t pretend I never heard what happened to this girl. I have to know for my own conscience that she’s okay and that whatever happened to her won’t happen to someone else. I don’t have the authority like you to make these things true but please don’t make me totally useless even so. Let me check on her.”
Something in the cop’s eyes changed drastically and for the first time it felt like the man was actually looking at him, taking him in instead of dismissing him irritably. He looked… not judgmental so much as surprised. He finally answered with, “The doctor is sure she was attacked but the details are unknown still.”
“She won’t talk?” Kame wasn’t surprised. Jiro was paranoid and violent and well worth being feared. He probably wouldn’t want to talk either in the circumstances. He hadn’t gone to the cops when Jiro’s men beat him before so why should he expect anyone else to be better than him?
“She can’t talk.” Detective Nishikido’s voice sounded tired. “They brought her in last night and she hasn’t regained consciousness in that time. That’s why I haven’t been able to interview her.”
Kame couldn’t keep his own surprise from showing, blurting out, “Then how…?” If Ayumi hadn’t woken up then she couldn’t have told anyone who attacked her. Had the twins been wrong after all? Was Katsuo-san’s entire story a lie?
Though even if it wasn’t true, Kame had his mind set on rescuing that boy. He stayed in that miserable apartment building long enough to notice the way Jiro treated him and the familiar resigned despair clouding the boy’s eyes when Jiro wasn’t paying attention. At the time he had his own problems so he did nothing about it. Now he had the chance to do better.
“As your prison-bound friend.” Now the detective looked amused and a little wistful as he added, “If I had half the sources the PIC has, I’d be a rich man…”
“PIC?”
More amusement. “Prison Information Chain? You’re doing favors for a prisoner and you don’t know what that is?”
Oh, that PIC. That’s what the prisoners and guards had taken to calling Akira and Aoi’s massive information network. “I know what it is. I just was surprised to hear about it from someone other than the twins or other prisoners…” Had they really expanded it to the point they could learn details of crimes before the victims even reported them to cops or doctors?
The cop had gone deathly still. “You know Akira and Aoi?”
Maybe he shouldn’t have said that. “I… ah, do you know Akira and Aoi?”
“Everyone knows Akira and Aoi.” But Detective Nishikido wouldn’t say anything else on the matter. He handed Kame a business card with his name and number and told him to call when Ayumi woke up.
Then he left.
Kame stared at the door as it closed behind the retreating police officer.
What had just happened?

Chapter 110 ~Part Two - To Begin With~ A/N: There you go. Short scene but it's better than nothing. I'll spend the next hour tweaking the rest of this and try to move past it. And if I get too fed up, I'll change focus and start Chapter 111.
EDIT: Yeah, this is a Part 1, Part 2 thing. I'm doing my best to change it to say "Part One" everywhere but if I forget somewhere, I apologize.
