Random Political Thoughts

It strikes me as politics at its most disingenuous to have the Democratic leadership blame the Republicans for failing to pass the bailout when they only managed to get 60% of their own representatives to vote for it! (Vote rollcall here.) Note that I am extremely pleased that it did not pass.

Reason's analysis here.

I had heard that she promised to get at least 50% to vote for it. She did. The Republicans couldn't get their at least 50%. If that's true, it seems to me to be more a Republican failure. And given that the bill was blessed by Republican leadership - I'm sorry, I agree with the Democratic leadership. The Republicans could get their own people to vote for their bill - it's their fault.

The Democrats own the house, if they had wanted this to pass, they had it as long as they voted for what their party wanted. The Republicans should not have even been a factor in this.

Besides, as I said above, I am glad it failed. Maybe now we can have some plans that involve accountability and not nationalizing a major part of the economy.

As an American, I demand the God-given right to be free of any and all responsibility or accountability relating to my need to eat out at fancy restaurants for every meal, drive a 3-mpg Hummer, and own a 40-inch HDTV all while maxing out my credit cards and getting mortgages that I can't possibly afford while trying to flip houses.
