Random Thought: Hispanic Judas and Our Stupid Political Sideshow

Just a thought because I'm an English major, and sometimes some things just scream for a narrative, even when there shouldn't be one. (Seriously, there shouldn't be one: despite the drama, despite the urge we get to convert the candidates into cartoon characters, despite the Democratic in-fighting, despite the polls, and despite the rabid ( Read more... )

I think I have serious election fatigue, but I can't stop reading about it. It's this compulsion I can't kick.

Carville needs to shut. up. Each time we have one of these Surrogates Gone Wild episodes, the Clintons are unwilling to put the kibbosh on it. If I never see either of them again, it'll be too soon.

P.S. "Can you feel the alarms going off at the Clinton camp right now?" APPARENTLY NOT if they haven't muzzled him yet. Or it was part of their metaphorical master plan?

They're being safe, and not more than a bit cowardly. They're letting recognizable Democrats make these comments, and not muzzling them.

I said it once, I'll say it again:

"Hillary's part of the machine now. The challenge of liberals (and conservatives!) in this country is not to work within a corrupted machine, but to completely destroy it; after all the idea of a democracy is to improve the lives of everyone within it, not to create business opportunities for a wealthy few. And in all seriousness, if Hillary's speil is anything like Kerry's weak ass (but seductive) technocratic 'we can be the forerunner in the global economy by weilding the big stick of our military might' bullshit, the next GOP candidate will make a handbag out of her vagina."

I wouldn't call it cowardly so much as brazen - the only way they can win this nomination is by a Pyrric victory. What have they got to lose that they haven't already lost (like the black vote) by letting their surrogates repeatedly go crazy? Granted, I saw much more calculation in Ferraro's comments than Carville's, which just seem more off-key than anything. Jesus? Judas? Whatnow?

I forgot that people had been talking about Hillary '08 in November '04. Why would anyone think she wasn't part of the machine?
