Well, it's down to Ohio, and seriously? I don't think Kerry's gonna win it. The more that I think about it, the more I think I don't think I really wanted Kerry to win. Reason? As Daki said, Kerry's an empty suit, and here's my message to him.
There were a shitload of reasons to not like Bush, there were a million avenues to tackle this guy on, and the only way you can take down a money-loving, power-worpshipping, neo-imperialist like Bush is to make his faults and errors plain for everyone to see, even if that means you have to be a rude, offensive, Hunter S. Thompson-esque motherfucking speech gangster who uses words like bullets out of a Tommy gun. The man is a fearmonger - a goddamned fearmonger - who failed to keep his promises and uses the word "morals" like a political tool who acts less like Christ and more like Constantine; these are the sorts of people we are taught to not elect into office, these aer the sorts of people we are taught to smack down with extreme prejudice. His tools are fear, money, power, intimidation, privilege, and deception: when called out with no fear, men like these are incredibly easy opponents. You grow a fucking spine, you tolerate no challenges to your personal honor, and you play the highest-staked game in the world to fucking win. You do not just sit there and take punishment like Tyson versus Lewis: you're smarter than that, you're better than that, you and the people who supported you just plain wanted the Presidency and everything it meant more than the other guy did, so when you want it, you fight tooth and nail to get it.
You didn't. I hoped against the lowest expectations I have of people that the realities of Bush's term in office would set in. I hoped that you'd make those realities crystal-fucking-clear. I had hoped you could come up with something better than being an 'alternative.'
You didn't. You didn't fight hard enough, you didn't want it enough, you depended too much on people to undergo some sort of satori and suddenly comprehend why you're the better guy, and this is where you fucked up because people may not be stupid, but they are amazingly short-sighted, and when it's you against a guy who bases his campaign on fear, you are not going to win unless you take control of the situation.
You didn't. And now you're going to lose. And guess what? You deserved it.
Next time, grow a fucking spine, develop a real message that inspires a country to change instead of stagnate, and face the world without fear - not bravado, just a lack of fear. (Because hey, it's all going to turn out all right.)
Oh, that's right: there is no next time for you. Thanks for nothin'.
