DISCRIMINATION: Traditional Values Coalition

Apr 09, 2010 02:12

I like to look at my spam folder for a good laugh. Viagra offers, penis enlargements, and of course, oodles and oodles of lonely women desperately wanting to hook up with me all fill my inbox. Lately, I have also seen a number of Tea Party emails, and tonight I received this little number.

WARNING: Letter contains highly discriminatory and prejudice mindset. Also, I'm totally MST3King this 'cause it totally deserves it. )

I'm pretty sure Glen Beck doesn't believe half the nonsense he spouts, but he runs with it because he found a way to make himself famous.

This is hilarious, to a point. But you put your finger on the problem. There are actually people out there who believe wholeheartedly in this crap. And these people vote and vote often. They can be rounded up like cattle and told what to do and they'll do it. Quite frankly, most of my liberal friends don't bother going to the polls unless it's a presidential election. While they can't be told what to do (which is good), they don't do anything at all (which is bad).

If the majority of thinking people do nothing, then I cringe at our future as a nation. I realize everything goes in cycles, but I'd like to bypass this one and head right for the rinse.

This looks like someone ran it through Pornolizer, but it was actully written that way. I like that Lindsey Graham, of all people, said that Glenn Beck wasn't a conservative, he was a cynic, because cynicism makes money. Probably the one true thing he ever said. But enough about Glenn's sobfest. There are uneducated Christians, the TRUE AMERICANS, that need scaring! lol.

I don't understand why people aren't psyched about voting, especially liberals. Jury duty is the only civic duty I hate.

I don't like voting because it doesn't seem to count. I voted for Obama, but my state's votes went the other way. The only liberals in this state live in the college towns (there are four towns with actual universities). The rest is still stuck in the 1800s.

I know Beck doesn't really believe that crazy stuff. He's like Howard Stern and all the other shock jocks--it brings the ratings and makes him rich. Still, he's got to associate with the people who agree with him.

I didn't vote until the Obama election. I had thought about it two elections ago, when it was so close. It wouldn't have made a difference here in North Dakota, though. Just as my state didn't vote for Obama this time, either. It's how the system works that makes folks like me apathetic.

Uffgh *facepalm* Please tell it was a robot that just randomly put words together? No, wait, they're smarter than that. They have "error" and "esc" buttons.

I know! My email was smart enough to realise it was spam and dumped it into the spam box where, if I didn't bother opening it, I would never have seen this atrocity.

Curiousity killed this cat.

How I love lj, it gives me a completely different view of the world from the mass media. Sick, depressing, but interesting. You are doing well to get right through this junk and still be adding witty asides.

But I don't understand why such intelligent, critical people as you and your friends don't vote. Women died to get us the vote, the least we can do is exercise that hard-won right. In Australia, voting is compulsory, I have personally prosecuted people for not voting (went out fishing all day and forgot being the typical excuse) and a jolly good thing too.

But here in the UK, there are lots of people who don't vote, claiming all politicians are the same - well (I think), do something about it, vote for someone who's different.

I would be happy to vote if I found someone who I felt would be appropriate for the job.

For our state's senate seat, of the three men who ran, two of them said the same things in a different way (neither of them I agreed with). The third man was a laugh.

Why is it that the people who are interested in public office are usually not worth having in public office?

Looks like you do some pretty active campaigning, which is no doubt even more useful than just turning up to vote every few years.

Sorry not to have been around for a week or two, Easter was busy. Like your new lj at lot!

Thanks! I grabbed it from a Russian forum where people share their layouts. The navigation thing on the side was in Russian, so I had to Photoshop it into English. It's not as flexible as I'd like it, so I'll have to play around and tweak it.
