How scary is the Beowulf film that's just come out?

Beowulf was made of awesome, IMO. But then, give me some Old English and bawdiness and nekkid Angelina Jolie, and I am so very there.

By "scary," I mostly mean "butchered" - I've heard both good things and bad things, so I'll have to wait till I've seen it this evening to make a call one way or the other.

(I'm one of the few people in the world, it seems, who doesn't understand the appeal of Angelina Jolie! I find her more creepy-looking than attractive.)

I'm really pretty scared. Yet I don't think I can stay away. It has that creepy animation that I hate (why not just use the real actors??! WHY!?!) and I'm sure they've just butchered my beloved poem beyond reason. BUT...it's still Beowulf! On screen. And maybe Neil Gaiman saved it.

...amazingly enough, I'm surprised. I'm just home from viewing, and my reaction is so mixed that I'm just going to write up my review before it all escapes me.
