 i briefly considered getting out of bed, and getting the hell out of my brick building deathtrap, and then went back to sleep.

When I was in Japan I was awaken by my bed shaking at least once per fortnight. I got into the habit of not getting out of bed, waiting for it to calm down, and trying to sleep again.

You were in a building that survived shaking at least twice a month, and was purpose-built for it; heck, the building probably *liked* it that way! I was in an all-brick, 100-year-old deathtrap made by people who've never felt an earthquake in their life. Back in berkeley I never worried either.

Crazy... portable earthquakes indeed. But apparently this one wasn't that bad, as none of these numerous "deathtraps" actually collapsed.
