wei=micro; bo=blog;
weibo = microblog.
sina weibo = Chinese twitter

Huh, thank you for breaking that down. I've seen it called a weibo and a sina, but I didn't know what they were actually for, fail. ^^;

Sina is one of China's biggest internet news portals.
There's also a sohu (sina's biggest competitor) weibo and a myspace weibo, but they're not nearly as popular and no one really uses those two.
