That post just plain made me sad; both due to the fact that somebody felt it needed to be said and also the fact that there are so many people who see gender relations in such a strained and hostile light.

I'm not sure I understand this part:

«and also the fact that there are so many people who see gender relations in such a strained and hostile light.»

Do you mean:
A) that those people see gender relations in such a strained and hostile light whereas in reality they are not? (or a variant thereof: whereas in reality they're not as much). That is, they are imagining things up.

B) that those people want to see gender relations in such a strained and hostile light so they make it so?

Who are those so many people? Mostly men, mostly women? Half/half? Do they have the same perspective on «strained and hostile gender relations»? Are those perspectives equally valuable?

I am going to invert the thing here: Would gender relations be alright if there were not so many people (X men/ X women) seeing (imagining) them in such a strained and hostile light?

That so many people see gender relations in such a strained light, period. That fact tends to indicate that there are a lot of people out there, ranging from people like this git to child molestors, whose ideas of how to interact with the opposite gender are so badly out of line with reality that both they and the members of the opposite sex they encounter wind up anywhere from insulted/angered/embittered/creeped out to dead. This makes me sad ( ... )
