Pls do not abandon your LJ. We love reading whatever you post. As for Sailormoon stuff, I would love to send you some but I don't have any in my stash here and it will take at least a month to get there if I ever send one (I live on the other side of the world).
For new series, I would suggest that you recommend CLAMP Campus Detectives as it is a fun series to watch as well as read (if the manga is still available). If sports anime, maybe Prince of Stride: Alternative, Kuroko no Basket, Haikyuu!, Slam Dunk!, and Free!! to name a few.
Christmas would be a better time to get him these new stuff. If you have time and need to get him something for his birthday, maybe you can get him a printed T-shirt with a Sailormoon image?
